When The Heart Speaks

When The Heart Speaks

I am divided.
I am split in two.
One half of me is heart.
The other half is mind.

The heart will sing of summer and of joyous dancing.
And is passionate beyond measure.
The heart will tear down walls to protect loved ones.
The heart will jump through hoops just to see a smile.
Loved ones are safe in knowing all is well,

When the heart speaks.
A single wrong word against loved ones and there will be a reckoning.
But the heart knows no reason.
The heart can be broken a million times,
And will still return at the promise of joy.

For the heart, there is no aging.
The heart is forever young.
Forever joyful, forever innocent.

The mind on the other hand, is cynical beyond measure.
Is suspicious, is shrewd.
And watches behind the eyes.
It is cold and it is calculating and it knows nothing of feelings.

It is logical and is hardly ever kind.
The mind retorts:
“You lie who call it summer.”
The mind cannot enjoy simple pleasures.
The mind cannot dwell in the here and now.
The mind looks at what was and looks to what could be.
But never rests in now.
The mind on the other hand,
when the heart knows no reason and is raging for blood,
is one that calls for calm and talks of reason.
When the hearts wants to cry for pain that is caused,
The mind placates with reason and promise.
The mind will not allow for more broken hearts.
The mind will not allow for more broken promises.
The mind protects the heart and builds walls around it.

Both speak to me.
And they say different things.
I always write from my heart,
Sing from the heart.
Dance from the heart.
But how do I live?

I am divided.
I am split in two.
One half of me is heart.
The other half is mind
